Editorial Days
4 minutes read

This blog post refers to Desk-Net, which has since changed its name to Kordiam.

Newsrooms seeking to optimize workflows can benefit from the integration between Kordiam, a content planning tool, and Livingdocs, a digital content creation and publishing system.

This powerful combination was the focus of a presentation by Gabriel Hase, CEO and Co-Founder of Livingdocs, and Céline Tykve, Head of Business, at Kordiam's Editorial Days 2023. The presentation explored how the Süddeutsche Zeitung newsroom leverages this integration to streamline workflows and empower their journalists in a dynamic digital environment.

The Power of Modular Infrastructure

Livingdocs recognizes the need for flexibility in newsrooms. Their modular infrastructure allows for  configuration/maximum flexibility through a variety of tools for different areas of work, e.g. article editor, page management, media library, etc. This enables newsrooms to adapt and implement changes quickly and efficiently.

A key player in this structure is Kordiam. Kordiam is a content planning tool tailored for communication teams and newsrooms. With Kordiam, teams with complex content requirements can easily plan content across various platforms, manage topics, and coordinate tasks and staff. The platform excels at planning, making it the ideal starting point for coordinating the content creation for web pages, digital editions, and print. For the Süddeutsche Zeitung newsroom, with its 600 journalists, Kordiam ensures clear and organized workflows by serving as the single source of truth for all content.

The Süddeutsche Zeitung newsroom enhances their workflow with a custom-built article editor. Their Lux editor allows journalists to write content directly in a web browser and all the information added in the editor is consolidated within Kordiam before being synced to Livingdocs for final production across their various digital and print products.

Example - Süddeutsche Zeitung Newsroom’s Daily Routine

Step 1: Content Planning in Kordiam
The members of the editorial team gather for their morning meeting. Here, they brainstorm and plan topics. Kordiam plays a crucial role by allowing them to create "ideas" and move them through various statuses, ensuring a clear and organized workflow.

Step 2: Effortless Planning and Channel Management with Kordiam
With Kordiam, content can be planned once and easily designated across multiple channels. Imagine having two travel products - a daily online travel page and a digital edition. With Kordiam, assigning content to the digital edition for publication later in the day is a simple task. Channels in Kordiam are also intricately linked to Livingdocs pages, allowing for seamless content assignment to specific sections and products. Editors have complete visibility into content assignments across different platforms. Content is created and assigned in Kordiam, then seamlessly flows through the editing process before landing in Livingdocs, ready to be placed on the page.

Step 3: Effortless Page Management with Livingdocs
Livingdocs empowers further page management within the platform itself. Users can edit teasers, add images, or incorporate other media directly. Additionally, page management becomes effortless with pre-defined teaser formats for different content types.

Gabriel Hase finished the presentation by emphasizing how the Kordiam and Livingdocs integration enables effortless planning and channel management, allowing for quick adjustments to channel assignments and seamless content assignments to different channels and products.
