Yle’s Road to Success in Newsroom Planning Across Platforms
When Finland’s national broadcaster Yle set out to unify editorial planning, the goal was to bring every team into one connected system. With journalists working across TV, radio, digital, and regional desks, the challenge was more than technical. It was about creating alignment across people and workflows.
At Editorial Days 2025, Anu Vilkman and Hanna Siren shared how they introduced Kordiam to 2000 users in just two weeks.
The rollout started with careful preparation. A core team set up story structures, rundowns, and tagging conventions. Early adopters helped test the system and shaped the training process. Most users needed only a short session to get started, with videos reinforcing key tasks.
Today, every story begins in Kordiam. Editors see what teams are working on. Contributors have better visibility. Camera crews and technical staff can check assignments on their phones. This clarity has improved planning across platforms.
Yle started with a minimal set of integrations to avoid disruption. Their CMS and shift planning tool came first. Media asset tools followed. More systems will be added over time.
Some challenges remain. Occasional slow views and overwritten edits create friction. Still, Kordiam now supports more users than the old tool ever did. And teams that were once disconnected are now planning together.
The shift helped Yle move faster, with more control and less confusion.
